SurfCast's patents cover technology for smartphones and the Cloud.
SurfCast enables people to customize their interfaces and bring together everything they want from their desktop drives and smartphones, online -- in their cloud -- and integrate it into a single environment.
SurfCast enables people to easily manage multiple sources of information simultaneously and continuously: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Check-ins, Wikis, mobile apps, IM, Skype, music, blogs, photos, DVDs, Webcasts, email, contacts, live TV, GPS, documents, widgets, etc.
In 1999 SurfCast conceived and designed 'Tiles'.
Tiles are dynamic bookmarks. A Tile is a visual presentation of its 'target' -- it actually 'is' its target, rather than being a representation of the target.
Tiles are selectable and live. A Tile already contains the content users want, always updating with new or live images -- delivering information as 'live updates'. The Tiles are live in that each contains real-time or near real-time content and are continually updating.
Tiles are dynamically updating icons. A Tile is different from an icon because it provides a real-time or near-real time view of the underlying information in that it contains continually refreshed content. Tiles are the next generation of icons.
Tiles enable people to have all their content, applications, and resources -- visualized at all times -- dynamically updating and inherently synchronized.
A Tile provides an at-a-glance view of the current status of the program or file associated with it.
The refresh rate at which a Tile displays content may be independently configured by the user for each Tile.
